Pierce County Human Services Virtual Summit
September 27, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm PDT
MultiCare Health System is partnering with Pierce County leaders, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and the organization Blue Zones to transform the health and well-being of Pierce County residents. On Sept. 27, from 6:30-8 pm, the community is invited to a virtual summit to discuss the collaboration and possible outcomes.
Research shows that where people live has a bigger influence on their health and well-being than genetics. Blue Zones tackles this phenomenon, known as the zip code effect, by focusing on sustainable changes to the life radius — the area close to home where people spend 90 percent of their time. Through their systemic, research-based approach, Blue Zones has helped communities across the country reduce obesity, smoking and stress; improve employee and student productivity; and boost economic vitality.
In addition to participating in the virtual summit, Blue Zones is working with local leaders to conduct a feasibility analysis, assessing Pierce County’s current state of well-being and identifying opportunities for improvement. A detailed proposal will follow with recommendations for change. MultiCare’s Center for Health Equity and Wellness is coordinating this endeavor.
“Working with like-minded organizations to address health disparities in the communities we serve is at the core of our mission of partnering for healing and a healthy future,” said Bill Robertson, MultiCare president and CEO.
Those interested in attending the virtual summit must RSVP to receive the link.
